A variety of exciting opportunities to suit all

It is difficult to do justice to the wonderful variety that Tobago has to offer. Much of the fun is finding out for yourself, but the following should give you some ideas.

By the Sea

Tobago is renowned for its beaches which offer great variety. In the south of the island is Buccoo Reef which is particularly exciting to explore - and there are wrecks for the adventurous. beach-sunset

There are many ways to take advantage of the sea and coast. Apart from scuba diving (see "Sub-aqua in Paradise"), snorkeling can be done from the beach or off a boat. Sailing and cruising is readily available in Tobago. Frankie's Tours offers a range of coastal and snorkeling tours, with a 10% discount for all Villa Petrus residents. Further exciting options are to go out in a power boat or a glass-bottomed boat. Other opportunities on the water are hobie cat sailing, water-skiing and wake boarding, kite surfing and kayaking.

Frankie's Tours offers a range of fishing trips (deep sea fishing, shark fishing, bottom/wreck fishing and fly fishing) and a discount of 10% is available to all Villa Petrus residents. Others offering the thrill of big game fishing with exciting charters include Dillons and Dreamcatcher.

One very special feature of Tobago is turtle watching, as the Giant Leatherback Turtle nests on the Stonehaven and Courland beaches between March and August.

Inland

There is much to explore inland. Tobago has the world's oldest protected rainforest reserve and many old plantations. There are spectacular waterfalls and a variety of historical sites to visit - particularly old forts from Tobago's past. You will find lots to see on an inland trip.

Bird-watching is a major attraction, with a vast array of beautiful local birds. You may want to go on nature hikes or you may find mountain bike tours more exciting. Another excellent way to see Tobago is on horseback and there are exciting opportunities for horse riding both inland, on the beach and even into the water.

The golf opportunities are described in 'Golf in Paradise'. For the more energetic, tennis is available at both Mount Irvine and Grand Courland

Eating in Tobago

There is a great variety of eating opportunities in Tobago and al fresco eating is the norm. You can, of course, self cater at Villa Petrus or arrangements can easily be made for a trained cook to come in and cook for you.

For eating out, among the particularly good restaurants in Tobago is La Tartaruga, where residents of Villa Petrus will receive a 10% discount. This offers uncompromisingly Italian dishes, with an emphasis on fresh local seafood, and has an extensive 160-selection cellar. La Tartaruga's Italian owner, Gabriele, and his youthful staff all operate with high enthusiasm, performing con brio each item on the menu for each table.

There are many other restaurants offering a range of cuisines, including Shirvan Water Mill (Creole / international / seafood), Kariwak Village Restaurant (Caribbean/Creole) and Indigo's (fresh local seafood/international/daily specials). A recent opening is Melange, which offers nouvelle-style cuisine, with fusion food based on French cooking.

This is only a small sample of the possibilities and you will undoubtedly want to explore others.
